About Lewis Matlock
Security is easier to act on when you understand it.
I am a security practitioner and educator based in Yucaipa, California. CyberWiz is my solo consulting practice.

I have 10+ years in cybersecurity and IT. My work brings enterprise cloud security experience to organizations that need clear security priorities and a defined next step.
I was Cloud Security Manager and Architect at City National Bank for 6 years. I also held earlier roles at Restaurant365, AAMP Global, and Trilogy Education.
I am a Lecturer in Information Systems Technology at Cal State San Bernardino, with 6 years of cybersecurity bootcamp instruction.
I contributed to the CIS Microsoft Azure Foundations Benchmark, credited in v1.4.0.

Explain the finding.
Name the next decision.
The person reading a security report should not have to translate it before deciding what to do. I focus on the system, the risk, and the work that needs an owner.
Start with the organization.
Understand the question, the people affected, and the scope before choosing a tool or a framework.
Make responsibilities visible.
Policies and plans need to be connected to people who can carry them out and leaders who can make decisions.
State what the work covers.
A scoped assessment is not every possible assessment. Readiness work is not an audit. The boundaries belong in the conversation.
Hands-on experience
Tools are useful when they serve the work.
| Area | Tools and platforms |
|---|---|
| Cloud and identity | Azure, Entra ID, Microsoft Defender, Prisma Cloud, Wiz |
| Assessment and visibility | Qualys, Nessus, Splunk, ELK |
| Infrastructure | Cisco and Palo Alto firewalls, VMware, Proxmox |
These names describe hands-on skills. They do not imply a partnership or endorsement. Previous employers, CIS, and Cal State San Bernardino do not endorse CyberWiz through this site.
